The Internet is for Everyone!
23 August 2001
The Internet Society of Australia has been invited to give the keynote address to an international meeting of Pacific Nations that will set strategy for information and communications technologies.
Mr Tony Hill, Executive Director of ISOC-AU, will give the address on behalf of ISOC-AU on Monday, 27 August 2001 in Noumea.
As part of the address, Mr Hill will discuss key topics from Australian use of the Internet that are relevant to South Pacific nations. Key issues will include bandwidth, access technologies, domain names, privacy and policy making.
Mr Hill will argue that use of Internet-based technology provides the best prospects for delivering maximum benefit to business and individual users from Internet and communications technology and for avoiding the `technology glamour trap'.
There is likely to be strong industry interest in the forum as the geographically-dispersed nations of the Pacific region look to increase their involvement in the global communications revolution, particularly through use of Internet technology.
The full text of Mr Hill's presentation will be available at the ISOC-AU web site on Monday 27 August 2001.
