The Inaugural General Meeting

The Inaugural General meeting took place on 27th November 1996, at UTS in Sydney.

Of nearly two hundred and fifty members who joined before the start of the meeting, over one hundred attended it to discuss the future, and to vote for their Directors. Remote members cast their votes over the Internet, of course, and the meeting was broadcast onto the Internet.

"We built it", said Geoff Huston, one of the inaugural Directors. "Not Telstra, not News Corporation and not any Government. You and I - we built the Internet and now it's up to us to help it grow and to survive the inevitable demands that will be made on it as it becomes a more and more important part of our Society."

The minutes of the IGM are now available, written up by Honorary Secretary Adrian Hill.
